This animated anthology series features original stories set in the worlds of legendary video games. Video games have taken a big leap to the big screen, and we’re celebrating the genre by taking a closer look at over 50 video game adaptations into movies and series. Clive Standen reprises his voice role as Demetrius Titus, the protagonist of the video game Space Marine 2.

Aside from a few great episodes, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The script is painfully average and drags the entire show down despite the undeniably impressive visual effects – even these feel like rehashed holdovers from the decade’s best video game movie. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that hasn’t already been done (and done better) in video game marketing over the past 10+ years?
Where are the big names?
The absence of a heavyweight screams one thing: the developers didn’t want to deal with this disaster, or were waiting to see if Season 1 would survive. Spoiler alert – there isn’t one. The creators don’t seem to have the ability to tell stories in short form.

What should have been tight, efficient and memorable appears fragmented and unimaginative. Variety called it “uninspired blandness” and for once Variety wasn’t strict enough Secret Level is proof that flashy visuals can’t mask a lack of vision, heart or originality. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
