Narrative
Claire Beauchamp Randall, a World War II nurse, is mysteriously transported back in time to Scotland in 1743. There, she meets a dashing Highland warrior and becomes embroiled in an epic rebellion. Moore (the series’ developer), his crew decided to keep the Gaelic words instead of translating them into English. This maintained the first-person narrative, showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic.
In some episodes, characters say “OK” ; An American expression that only came into use in the 19th century
The idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he had seen something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternative film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart. The opening theme song changes from season to season to reflect the events taking place in the story. In the first half of the second season (which is set in France), some of the lyrics are in French. In the second half of the second season (which is mostly about preparing for war), a militaristic drum is added to the opening theme.
Outlander was much better than I expected
Season 3 added tribal drums, as most of the season is set in the West Indies. Season 4 added bluegrass fiddle and banjo, and some of the lyrics are sung in a Southern accent, as the season is mostly set in America. Appears in the film Outlander: An Epic adaptation (2015). It’s much more than a love story
I just caught up with the previous season and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It’s so well written and acted that you really start to care about these characters and what happens to them. The cinematography is beautiful, everything from the cinematography to the costumes is excellent. The overall production value is as good as any television.
If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP!
I have to say that the last few seasons haven’t been as good as the previous ones, but they’re still worth watching.
